4th Entry for Oct. 24, 2010

In the later part of the evening I was trying some more papers, with an eye to using up some of the odds and ends of paper that have accumulated in my studio, and halfway hoping some combination would magically `click' and translate the kind of free, confident drawing I do on newsprint onto a more archival surface.

Topmost is black ballpoint pen on some VanGelder paper, about 6" square.
The middle one is Conte crayon on 24 x 36" cartridge paper,
and the lower one is Conte on a 12 x 16" sheet piece of VanGelder paper.

I quite like the lower one - the paper is mid-toned in value and flecked with various coloured threads, and the value and texture of the paper fills in some of what would be white space in the shading marks. It is an archival paper.  The cartridge paper was nice and smooth, but not very sturdy.
