3rd entry for July 22, 2014

These are three 5-minute studies, a 10-minute one and a 15-moniute one at the bottom. The top three are all Pitt pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Strathmore series 400 paper.
The lowest two are water-soluble graphite and regular graphite pencils on Canson Montval watercolour paper. I was experimenting with some cross-hatch with a hard pencil after, and like the tonally fluid background potential of it. It also makes a foil for the fluid tonal marks.
It was not my strongest session drawing, but really good practice. Fewer worked overall.  It wasn't 'til the last third of the time that I felt  I was getting in my drawing groove, and overall I wasn't working as fast as I would have liked.
Chloe's costume choices were interesting, and I particularly enjoyed the anatomy-patterned bodystocking she used for the last poses.
.... which is a great place to insert a reminder that I'm teaching a 5-day Anatomy and Figure Drawing intensive from August 18 - 22 at the TSA. 10 a.m to 5 p.m. daily and it's running. There's still space, and you can sign up here.

2nd entry for July 22, 2014

These are a 2-minute, a couple of 3-minute and a 5-minute study. I haven't been doing as much drawing from life, particularly short poses of late, and I was feeling the rust that afternoon.

1st entry for July 22, 2014

Chloe came to work at Diane McGrath's Drawing Room session. These are some 30-second and 1-minute studies.
The short poses at the aerial drawing sessions are extra-challenging, owing to the unusual body positions people can hold, but frustrating in so far as it is almost impossible to record much of how the people look,  For me, though, this is the good frustration, that makes me reach to see how much I can get down.

3rd entry for July 8, 2014

These are 5-minute studies, done with a medium-point Pitt pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Strathmore Series 300 paper.
Knowing about body structure is a real asset in drawing people. From August 18 - 22, I'm teaching a 5-day intensive course on anatomy as it applies to figure drawing at the Toronto School of Art. If you're interested, you can get more info and enroll through here.

1st entry for July 8, 2014

Jasper came to work for Diane's Drawing Room session. It was good to have a chance to draw a male aerialist, and Jasper is a strong and experienced performer. These are some 30-second and 1-minute studies, done with Pitt pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper.

3rd entry for June 10, 2014

These are three 3-minute studies on 18 x 24" Canson Recycled Sketch above, two 5-minute ones on 18 x 24" Canson XL Mixed Media below that. The bottom one is 10-minute study, water-soluble pencil and water-soluble graphite washes on an 18 x 24" sheet of Canson Montval watercolour paper.

Linsay's work was great, but it had to be an abbreviated day for me, as right after that 10-minute study it was time to head out to catch a free performance by the Corpus Dance Company (which I was glad I got to see.) Too many interesting things happening simultaneously...

2nd entry for June 10, 2014

These are some 1-minute and 2-minute studies, Pitt calligraphy pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper.

1st entry for June 10, 2014

On the Tuesday afternoon I was at Diane Mcgrath's Drawing Room session. Lindsay was working that day. These are six 30-second and 1-minute studies from then, plus four fast ballpoint studies of her from the Sunday Reverie session that I neglected to post.
The first six are Pitt calligraphy-point pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper, and the lower four are on 12 x 18" sheets of cartridge paper.

For anyone looking for some drawing instruction, I have 8-week Life Drawing basics courses starting at the TSA in July: Tuesday nights, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. starting July 8, and Thursday mornings, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting July 3. Both are running, and each still has space for more students. Clicking on the links will take you to registration.
