2nd Entry for December 17, 2009

The sense of movement I was trying to respond to in M- 's 1-minute poses continued on into these 5-minute studies.

2nd Entry for July 30, 2009

Each of these were 1-minute poses, and these are in order of M- taking them. He often has a flow from pose to pose, each a shift rather than being a jump. I was impressed by his strength, especially in sustaining upside-down poses.

Entry for June 2, 2009

On Tuesday I gave Artists 25 a pass and went along with Z- to check out the bi-weekly Circus Jam in Kensington's Bellvue Park (home of the Al Waxman statue). Dozens of people were out and the atmosphere after dark was festive - dance music was playing, and dozens of people were spinning hoops, practising juggling and other tricks, and giving one another pointers. As night descended, people performed routines with fire - fire fans, fire poi, fire staffs and flaming balls on lengths of rope.
I thought it would be a good opportunity to do some gesture sketching, and it was.

But the 30-second poses at Diane's Drawing Room were a cakewalk compared to these performers dancing through their routines. I filled a few pages with scratchy memory gesture sketches done with a ballpoint pen. It was fun at first, but got frustrating as the ambient light died out. Still a long way to go to get to Toulouse-Lautrec territory, that's for sure!

2nd entry for May 10, 2009

These were 5-minute and 10-minute poses. Drawing M- is always a race against time, as there are so many nooks and crannies ceating shadows, and an expressive face to try to draw as well.

1st entry for May 10, 2009

M- came to work on the Sunday night. It is always a pleasure to draw him, as he puts an energy and intensity into his poses, and that suits his lean, wiry frame.

On Thursday evening, I went back to Diane"s "Drawing Room" studio, where A- was working. THese were some of the 1-minute poses she did using 2 parallel sets of silk straps.

Z- was at the TSA all day on the Sunday, an event worth getting up early for. These were some 1-minute poses she did.

1st entry for January 2nd, 2009

And so a new year begins. It began on a pleasing note, with Z- working at the TSA on the Friday night. Her gesture poses get better and better. These were 1-minute poses.
