3rd entry for October 20, 2009

These were a 20-minute sitting pose and a 10-minute standing one. The week before I was at the "Body Worlds" exhibit, and on some level the sight of all those muscle/bone displays was feeding into my drawing as well.

3rd entry for August 28, 2009

These were all 15-minute poses. As I have noted, I think that the G- 's anatomy - especially her bone structure - is a little more sensitively described here than usual.

1st entry for August 28, 2009

The period between the 16th and the 28th was a busy one. I had work in an exhibition, took a weekend roadtrip to Montreal, and taught a 5-day anatomy & drawing workshop.
So it was not until the Friday night that I had time free to go sketching. On Friday, G- was working at the Toronto School of Art. These were some 5-minute and 10-minute poses that she took.
I find that whenever I teach a topic, it is reflected more strongly in the studies I do. This being the first session I was drawing at in over a week, I was a little rusty. Nevertheless, I do feel that the body strucyure is set down a slight bit more clearly in that evening's studies.

2nd entry for May 10, 2009

These were 5-minute and 10-minute poses. Drawing M- is always a race against time, as there are so many nooks and crannies ceating shadows, and an expressive face to try to draw as well.

1st entry for January 23, 2009

On Friday we had G- working at the TSA. He is someone else I hadn't had an opportunity to work with yet. (lucky thing, too, another male model to add to my roster) His poses were good, and he was a person on whom anatomical features were fairly easy to read, which is one of the things that I like.

These were 5- and 10-minute poses.

(In that regard, drawing G- on the Friday was an apt preamble to the Saturday & Sunday, when Z- and I went to see literally dozens of dance companies performing in a mini-festival at Harbourfront. It was, as Z- observed, applied anatomy, among many other levels of artistic expression)

4th Entry for December 14, 2008

These last images were 15 and 20-minute studies. It was a good night for me in terms of conveying the anatomical structure & strength of B- . Perhaps having been unable to take any time to sketch over the week led to a greater enthusiasm when I did get the chance.

Some nights go better than others. Overall, though, I feel that the depth of response in these short studies has grown over the 2.5 years I've been blogging. Check the early work on the Yahoo 360 blog, and see if you agree.

(All of these are done on 24 x 36 sheets of conte crayon)

3rd Entry for November 23rd, 2008

These were 10-minute poses. L- 's curly semi-Mohawk haircut was challenging to set down at all quickly. The night was one where my drawing was working out fairly well. Some nights, it just flows. Others, it is a like a street-by-street battle to put the marks in the places where I want them. With L- , one could work out skeletal structure fairly well, and I was able to get quite a lot of anatomical information suggested in her back. Mostly, I let the shadows tell the story in that regard.
