1st entry for February 2, 2010

On Tuesday night it was C- working at the Drawing Room session on Roncesvalles. I've drawn her before, but I was struck by how she had gained in confidence, strength and flexibility. My drawing was not up to the level of her poses that night, and there were far fewer than I am usually happy from the Tuesday night sessions. These were the only 1-minute and 2-minute poses that I liked.

4th Entry for January 29, 2009

Two stretched-out 3-minute poses and a 5-minute one sitting up. I was struck throughout with A- 's core strength, holding herself rigid for long periods. She remarked to someone at break that she hasd been doing gymnastics since childhood.

A topic of conversation with a couple of the other drawers was Nicolaides' book "The Natural Way to Draw", and gesture drawing as a looser process. A remark I recall frm Nicolaides was how even a piece of fabric has a `gesture' to the way it hangs. Some of these studies do a better job of showing the gesture of the silks, taut against a body, but hanging more loosely below.

2nd Entry for December 18, 2008

These were 1- and 2-minute poses. The equipment for that evening was two bands of silk, set a little over a metre apart.

A- seemed to be someone who might have some yoga experience, as she was able to sustain extended horizontal positions without sagging at all.
