7th Entry for November 1, 2009

After exploring for half the night, I used the last three long poses to focus on drawing P- as sensitively & responsively as possible. These were 15-minute and 20-minute poses that wrapped up the evening.

5th entry for November 1, 2009

One of the pluses about a model one knows well is that it can be a licence to experiment. I have, in my mind, suceessfully documented P- 's appearance enough times that it is less urgent to do.
On this night I gave over some time to thinking about overall composition. Usually I give over the whole time to just drawing the person as well as possible. This time I let the body stay loose, and worked on blocking in background shapes as well.
These are two 5-minute and one 10-minute studies.

1st entry for September 15, 2009

The Tuesday was another one where - due to other interests - I was only able to get to the last half of the drawing session at Artists 25. M- was working. I haven't drawn her in quite a while, but she goes back quite a way, and it is always a pleasure to have the opportunity to draw her. These were both 20-minute poses.

Note - the last few days I haven't been doing as much figure drawing, on account of spending a lot of time preparing for the Queen West Art Crawl, where I will be exhibiting work Saturday Sept 19th and Sunday, September 20th from 11 to 6 each day at Booth A65, in Trinity-Bellwoods park in Toronto. Some life drawing and some more pattern/biology oriented mandala drawings in pencil. Hope you will come visit!

1st entry for February 8, 2009

Z- had a return engagement on a Sunday day. so once again I managed to rise before noon, and only arrived 1/2 hour late to draw her...
It was head & shoulders day then as well, with me endeavouring to set down this visage I know & like so well. A couple fell slightly short of the mark, and two worked quite well. These were all in the 10-15 minute range
