Entry for Oct. 3, 2011

On the Monday night, I went to the Ralph Thornton Centre, albeit a bit late getting there. C-    was working.   These are from the top, a 10-minute study, two 15-minute studies and a 20-minute one.  The other studies weren't strong enough to merit keeping.

These are all done with hard U-Art compressed charcoal on 18 x 24" sheets of cartridge paper.

3rd Entry for Oct. 2, 2011

These are 15-minute studies, a;so using hard U-Art charcoal sticks on 18 x 24" sheets of cartridge paper. In the lower one, I was particularly aware of the rhythms of the angles of arms and legs, and was trying to emphasise that aspect within the study.

2nd Entry for Oct. 2, 2011

These are three 10-minute studies, using U-Art charcoal on 18 x 24" cartridge paper sheets. The lower one was not an intentional fragment - I had started with the foreground legs,  and misjudged the time I had left.

On the Sunday night, post Nuit-Blanche action, S-   also happened to be working. These are 1-minute studies, using hard Koh-I-Noor compressed charcoal on 18 x 24" sheets of newsprint.

1st entry for Sept. 30, 2011

On the Friday, my mind was pre-occupied with details of the next evening's Nuit Blanche events - especially the drawing session that the TSA was hosting as part of their event. I came out that night partly to sketch, partly to gather things, and partly to announce the Nuit blanche affair to the assembled drawers.
On account of all that, I only did these three studies of S-  . The top one is a 10-minute one, just hard Koh-I-Noor charcoal, the middle one at 15 minutes is a mix of Koh-I-Noor and U-Art compressed charcoal, and the lower one is all U-Art charcoal. Each is on an 18 x 24" sheet of cartridge paper.  As in the day before, I gravitated back to the larger fragmentary image as the night progressed.
