1st entry for Oct. 18, 2010

It was showgirl night on the Monday. I went for the first time to the Dr. Sketchy's "anti life- drawing session" at the Cameron House back room.

These sessions have been running for a few years, at first monthly but now twice a month, bringing in Burlesque performers, performance artists and other less-standard models for a more playful session. It has a lot in common with the `Keyhole Sessions', inasmuch as the models are partly costumed, and both have loud dance-music soundtracks to accompany the modelling, and both have photo-documenters snapping pictures while the drawing is underway. Neither is a session well-suited to getting lost into the drawing for me, but both are good challenges for stepping out of my comfort zone. The vibe at the Sketchy's session was definitely more upbeat and playful than the Keyhole ambience, and at least on this night, the Sketchy's visual experience was much less risque, more dress-up.

S-  was working that evening -    , working with a belly dance theme.  These were some of the 2-minute poses that she took.  These studies are done in graphite on 9 x 14" sheets of cartridge paper.
