There was a final costume change and a few more long poses to wrap up the Dr. Sketchy's session. At to is 5 mins, then two 10-minutes and a 15-minute study below.
The top oone is on 18 x 24" Canson Recycled Sketch paper, the 2nd is on a 14 x 17" sheet of Canson Watercolour paper and the lower two are on 18 x 24 sheets of Canson XL series watercolour paper.
The line drawing is Pitt pen, and the other three below it are graphite,Pitt medium-point pen and ink washes.

These are three 5-minute studies up top, two 10-minute ones below that, and a 15-minute one at the bottom.

These are all 15-minute studies, done with water-soluble graphite pencils and Artgraf washes. The top one is on an 18 x 24" sheet of Somerset Book paper, and the other three are on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Montval watercolour paper.
With the costumes, expressions,and comparatively short poses the Sketchy's sessions do make for an above-average figure drawing workout.  I was fairly tired that night, as I tend to be currently on Friday nights, but I did what I could.
The topmost image had about 10 additional minutes or more of post-pose shading and background textures added during the break that followed.

These are several 3-minute and  5-minute head studies of Erica Furness (there wasn't time to draw her whole outfit and pay any attention to facial expression.) Below that are a 5-minute and a 10-minute study of Severin Stargher, and another 10-minute study at the bottom.
All these are Pitt pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper.

Entry for Sept 25, 2014

It was a portrait night at the Collective drawing session in an apartment close by High Park.  Frances provided a variety of 1-minute and 3-minute facial gestures as a warm-up.  Gwen, the daughter of the night's host, was nice enough to sit for a variety of studies after that; four 5-minute ones, a 15-minute one, and a 10-minute at the bottom.
The top two sheets of Frances are Pitt pen, most of the Gwen studies are Pitt pen and dilute india ink, and the 15-minute one is graphite pencil and Artgraf washes. All are on 17 x 17" sheets, of a variety of different papers (I've lost track of which is which)

 On the Wednesday night I got out to a Toons on Tap sesssion. `Singing Pin-Up Princess' Paige La Pearl brought her own particular brand of sunshine that evening.

On the Thursday evening the TSA hosted a special event in conjunction with the Offsite Design Festival. Titled Illustration Noir, the evening had two hours of poses, music and sets channeling a Film Noir feeling.
Karen Justl, who teaches at the school handpainted some striking sets and other decorations, and models Shel and Sergio were in costumes loaned by Monarch Vintage, a local clothes store.
A number of people came out to draw, and I helped out with the hosting of the night. As a consequence my own drawing was not as focussed as it could have been. It was interesting to see a more Toons On Tap style drawing session taking place at the school, and a real drawing challenge. All of these are done with Pitt pen on 18 x 24" Canson Recycled Sketch paper. The top centre and bottom ones are roughly 4 minutes each, and the 2nd and 4th ones are roughly 15 minutes each.

These are some 5-minute paired poses followed by 5-minute single poses with Nic above, and one of Merdith at bottom.
I liked how the bottom image has, for me a retro 1940's-type sci-fi illustration feel. I've always had a soft spot for that imagery.
Trying to keep proportion and body articulation working - and drawing costumes - in this sort of timespan is tricky, and doubly so with two people beside one another.
The black marks are all done with Sakura Graphic pigment pens. To help with the overall aspects I tried using a Copic 30% gray marker to lay down a pale gesture sketch of each figure.  Five minutes is not a lot of time to get 2 figures down, and in essence this meant drawing each figure twice - once in gray, then again in black. So in several cases I did not get all the way through rendering one of the figures. But at least you do get a suggestion of their pose. Something got sacrificed - either specific and sensitive description of each figure, or not detailing one at all. Drawing the black lines and shading areas felt how I imagine inking in a comic would be.  The Sakura pens are not obliging for midtones - and I like my midtones. So it was a good challenge.
The open-endedness of scribbly gesture drawing does make it easier to search out the relative sizes and poses, to make adjustments, and in paired figures to consider the interpersonal rhythms and dynamics.  And the light gray is not too distracting after the fact.
Next time I want to try an even lighter gray for preliminary marks.
