2nd entry for June 13, 2014

These are three 15-minute studies and a 20-minute one. All are water-soluble graphite pencil and water-soluble Artgraf washes on 18 x 24" sheets of paper; the top two are on Canson XL Mixed Media paper, the third is on Strathmore Series 300 paper and the bottom one is on a sheet of Canson Montval watercolour paper.

1st entry for June 13, 2014

On the Friday evening, Danielle was working. These are a 5-minute study at top and three 10-minute ones. All Pitt calligraphy-point pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled sketch paper.

If you're interested in a broad-ranging class in drawing skills (including, but not exclusively life drawing), there is a 6-week course I'm teaching through OCADU's Continuing Studies program.
It starts this Wednesday night, July 2, 6:30 - 9:30. The class is running with a nice small-size group, and still lots of room - you can sign up through here.

Bonus entry (June 8, 2014)

I missed posting a number of the rapid studies from the Reverie session.  These are all roughly 15 - 20 seconds, ball-point pen on 12 x 18 paper once I was warmed up. The performers were moving more then, so these are more spontaneous glyphs of pose than any sort of planned or premeditated image. Because of that they can also be the freshest drawings, in their partiality.

3rd entry for June 10, 2014

These are three 3-minute studies on 18 x 24" Canson Recycled Sketch above, two 5-minute ones on 18 x 24" Canson XL Mixed Media below that. The bottom one is 10-minute study, water-soluble pencil and water-soluble graphite washes on an 18 x 24" sheet of Canson Montval watercolour paper.

Linsay's work was great, but it had to be an abbreviated day for me, as right after that 10-minute study it was time to head out to catch a free performance by the Corpus Dance Company (which I was glad I got to see.) Too many interesting things happening simultaneously...

2nd entry for June 10, 2014

These are some 1-minute and 2-minute studies, Pitt calligraphy pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper.

1st entry for June 10, 2014

On the Tuesday afternoon I was at Diane Mcgrath's Drawing Room session. Lindsay was working that day. These are six 30-second and 1-minute studies from then, plus four fast ballpoint studies of her from the Sunday Reverie session that I neglected to post.
The first six are Pitt calligraphy-point pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper, and the lower four are on 12 x 18" sheets of cartridge paper.

For anyone looking for some drawing instruction, I have 8-week Life Drawing basics courses starting at the TSA in July: Tuesday nights, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. starting July 8, and Thursday mornings, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting July 3. Both are running, and each still has space for more students. Clicking on the links will take you to registration.

On the Monday night, Carmina was over at the TSA's session. These are 1-minute studies on the top 2 sheets, a 10-minute one, then two 15's and a 35-minute study at bottom. All 18 x 24", Pitt pen for the top 3 sheets, Canson XL mixed Media below and Canson Montval watercolour paper for the longer one.

3rd entry for June 8, 2014

The evening also had some performances. At top was a woman with a very nice voice who started improvising with the DJ's music while aerialists were on break. Below that are sketches of musician Eric Mandala on an african stringed instrument and partner Zu Zen on didgeridoo.  And a quick study of one of the audience people ahead of me. All ballpoint pen on 12 x 24" sheets of paper, mostly cartridge.
Below are some more short aerial studies, maybe 1-2 minutes posing, plus some extra shading. All ballpoint 12 x 18", various papers.

2nd entry for June 8, 2014

Drawing double-bill: on the Sunday evening I went over to Round Venue in Kensington for their monthly Reverie evening. Billed as a `downtempo drawing night', this Reverie had a playground of hoops, silks, sofas and chairs for aerialists to climb and play on.  Performers Katelyn McCulloch,  Emily Hughes, Lindsay Brooke Schlicht and Taliya Cohen were moving, experimenting with silks and holding some poses in what felt like a 30-second to 1-minute range. It's good spontaneity training from the drawing side, and the studies below are a sampling of dozens of ball-point pen sketches on 12 x 18" sheets of various cartridge papers.
