These are three 10-minute studies, and a couple of 12-minute-ish ones below. The top two are Pitt pen on 18 x 18" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper, and the lower two are the same pen with water-soluble graphite for shading on a couple of heavier papers, also around the same size.

These are some 5-minute studies above and a couple of 7-minute ones below. All are Pitt pen on 18 x 18" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper. the longer ones have some loose graphite underdrawing, to help with overall proportions.

1st entry for June 17, 2015

On the Wednesday night I got out to the Art Bar session at the Gladstone. Sera wa working, and these are a couple of 1-minute studies up top and some 3-minute ones below that.
All are a Pitt pen on 18 x 18" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper.
As usual, it takes at least a few poses just to get into a working groove, but i was more warmed-up, having been drawing on the Monday as well

2nd entry for June 15, 2015

These are another 5-minute study at top, three 10-minute ones below that, and a 20-minute and 10-minute one below.
The top four are also Pitt pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper. The lower two are a couple of types of water-soluble graphite pencils on watercolour papers. The 20-minute one is on an 18 x 24" sheet, and the bottom one is on an approx.11 x 18" sheet.
I have moved away from the graphite in favour of the warmer, broader-valued `oomph' of inks and Inktense pencils, but had revisited the watercolour graphites in some demos for a Haliburton workshhop and was enjoying it.

2nd entry for June 8, 2015

These are four 5-minute studies at top, and a couple of 10-minute ones below. They're also a pigment liner pen on 18 x 18" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper. By the end of the session I was getting back into more of an accustomed drawing zone. The lower two did have some fast pencil underdrawing, which for me helps a lot with taking care of proportions.
Also, facial features I find much easier to delineate if I have set down a general layout of the person's head. It takes a lot of pressure off of the need to be descriptive of features while creating the head all in one pass. the downside being that each preliminary mark takes time out of the available time for a pose someone is holding.

1st entry for June 8, 2014

Alex was working at the White House Drawing Project session in Kensington. these are a couple of 3-minute studies on the top sheet, 5-minute ones below that and a 10-minute one at the bottom. All are a pigment liner pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper. I've been feeling rusty in general, but more so that evening. It was a good workout, all the same.

Entry for June 1, 2015

On the Monday morning I got out to the Heliconian club, where Murray was working. A 5-minute study at top and three 10-minute ones below it. Following that are a 15-minute and a 20-minute study.

The top four are Pitt pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper. The next one is a liner pen and Derwent Inktense pencil shading on some inexpensive Japanese paper I had on hand (not so keen on the look of that.)
The last one is Derwent Inktense and a fine point Pitt pen on an 18 x 24" sheet of Canson XL Series watercolour paper. So the last two studies have essentially the same materials, but what a difference the paper makes.
