2nd entry for July 22, 2012

This was a 3-hour pose that D-  took, The upper study is roughly an hour, and was drawn directly with hard Nobel charcoal on  a 23 x 34" sheet of Durotone paper that had been lightly sanded and some grey chalk rubbed in. The lower image is almost 2 hours, done with the same charcoal on the same size of Durotone paper. It was wildly and loosely erased twice during that time and redrawn. For the second erasing, Jason Cheng kindly offered to erase it for me, so he added a further randomizing factor.
Erasing the image `softens the tonalities in a nice way, but it looks like too many successive erasures create diminishing returns.
