In the evening, Murray was working again, and I headed back for the last part of the eveniung after some family tech support. The top study was roughly 2 minutes; below that are two 15-minute studies. Both of these are done with hard Nobel charcoal on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper. Below that are two 20-minute studies done with the same charcoal on 23 x 34" sheets of Durotone `White Newsprint' paper.

For some reason I was making Murray's head extra-large  in the 20-minute studies. The top one is as I drew it, but in the bottom one I reduced the head I drew by nearly 25%...
