1st entry for Aug 4, 2011

In spite of a demanding week-long course, I was happy to go drawing on the thursday, as my sweetheart Z-   was working that night.
These are some 1-minute studies.

Images like the preceding Dr. Sketchy's ones benefit massively in my estimation from lots of experience gesture drawing in settings like this TSA session.

Gesture studies like these are, to my mind, a distillation of a comprehension of anatomical structure, with a liberal dash of energy and rhythm thrown in. An understanding of the body's joints and movement, and the muscular and bony masses that account for the person's structure help inform what marks to set down, in a non-static way.

From Aug 22 to 26th, I'm teaching a 5-day intensive class on Anatomy and Figure Drawing. Classes run 9 AM to 4PM daily, with a break for lunch.

The course is appropriate for people with some prior life-drawing experience. It features brief lectures, reference to a skeleton, plenty of handouts, and lots of drawing time with models to gain a better insight into the major bony and muscular forms that constitute a human body.
There's still space available - you can get registration info here.
