1st Entry for November 23, 2008

This post is a small, personal historical event- up until now, the life drawings I have been doing have all been posted on Yahoo's 360 service, but of late they are getting antsy about posting life drawings, and the number of warnings about imminent shutdowns are rising.

So I am testing out a shift of my blog over here to Blogspot. I hope it will be a happy stay.

In 360, all photos had to be logged as separate entries. Here, multiple images can be put on one page.

These studies were from the Sunday night that L- was working at the TSA. These are all 1-minute studies. Her gesture poses included a few yoga poses.

I believe that gesture drawing is a sort of approach unto itself - they are best accomplished by fast, loose almost continuous lines used to `search out' the shapes of a body, and convey the body's action- its' tensions & stresses, and how weight is being supported. These things are the meat & potatoes of gesture drawing, but in turn should inform how any figure drawing is done. Even if the marks aren't there on the page in a more careful study, it is good when one intuitively knows where they would go
