3rd entry for July 22, 2012

In the evening I got back for part of the Sunday night session, where B-  was working. These are some of his athletic 1-minute poses.

I want to digress briefly about interesting gesture-oriented drawing opportunities these days in the city.  This evening (Aug 10) I was at a fundraiser put on by Toons on Tap and XMG studios at the XMG headquarters.
Toons on Tap has all-ages gesture-heavy comix/costume/character sessions every couple of weeks upstairs at the Rhino Bat on Queen W in Parkdale, on Monday nights. Look them up on facebook for full details. Tonight, S- reprised his Conan role in wig and fur manskirt with swords and a heavy-metal soundtrack. It was a lit of fun and an excellent drawing challenge.

S-  hosts and models at his own session ot OCAD on Tuesday nights through the summer. It runs 6 - 10 PM weekly through August, costs $10 for students and $15 otherwise, and offers his usual super-athletic poses. 2 hours of gestures, then 2 or 3 long poses. If the turnout's good, there should be another model for some duo poses, too.  Room 617, but just go to the main OCAD U lobby before 6 on Tuesday and there are signs up. He has a facebook group -"Open Life Sessions at OCAD!"

Also on Mondays, Diane McGrath hosts her Drawing Room sessions at her studio - Studio 210 up on the 2nd floor of 213 Sterling Rd ( just W of Landsdowne, and between Bloor & Dundas/College). The session runs 7:30 - 9:30, costs $15, has only one break and features aerialists, dancers and models working on aerial equipment: trapezes, silks, hoops, and such. She has a facebook group, called "The Drawing Room"

... and every Saturday afternoon through August at the Toronto School of Art, , I'm hosting Gesture Drawing Boot Camp with a different model each week - $10, it runs 1:30 - 4:30, and no poses over 5 minutes.  Week 1 saw 73 poses in three hours.  Boot Camp don't need no facebook page: just turn up, drop and give me twenty 30-second poses, Sir, Yes Sir!  It's open to anyone... and remember to bring lots of paper.
(TSA is at 410 Adelaide St W, just west of Spadina, 3rd floor.)
