3rd entry for October 20, 2009
These are 15-minute and 20-minute studies, which closed off the night. I was running low on paper, so the texture of the cardboard backing of the newsprint pad I was using has imparted a mottled look to the shading of the study of F- standing, which does not bring me joy. Usually I reverse the direction of the pad partway through, or rip the backing board off & sit the last ten sheets on top of a fresh pad, so there is a soft, bump-free underlay to draw on, but I forgot on this one.
There are certain things associated with the seasons here in Toronto, like time change, shorter daylight and leaves turning colour. In the life drawing world now is the time that aspiring art-school applicants are putting their portfolios together. This night there were about 8 students and a teacher from Newtonbrook High joining the usual roster, and checking out everyoine's drawings. It seems like all the sessions I have been visiting lately have had a higher than usual youth attendance component, which is good to see.
Lovely stuff as usual Thomas, we're back life drawing for the winter out here so will be checking in more regularly. Really like your use of the side of the crayon, esp. on the male models below.
