I stayed on in the afternoon to work on a couple of longer studies of C-  . The one above is a 1.5 hour study, and the one below is roughly 1 hour.
Both are done with 8B graphite on 20 x 30" sheets of Japanese paper

I didn't  get to the whole of this morning session, but I found  C-     working when I did arrive. I hadn't drawn him before, but he did a good job.
Above are two 10-minute studies and below two 20--minute ones. The two above are graphite on cartridge paper, and the two below are graphite on Japanese paper, all in the 18 x 24" size range.

As subject matter, the 20-minute pose above didn't grab me so much, but I had a notion of making a demo study of using a light mid-tone across the whole picture as a sreategy for working on a longer image. I sort of like the overall - retinal, one might say - quality, as a contrast to the usual contour/sculptural/lots of white space approach I favour. Change always looks interesting, when you're doing lots of the same thing.
The lower image is a not-as-good 20-minute study on Japanese paper, that closed out the evening. I think I was running out of steam, that night. The previous night was much better.
The one above is Prismacolour art stick on Durotone paper, the one below is graphite on Japanese paper, bith in the 18 x 24" range.

On the Friday, L-   was back working, and so was I.  These are a couple of 1-minute studies above, and three 5-minute studies below.
All are done with graphite on 18 x 24" cartridge paper.

2nd Entry for Jan. 27, 2011

From the top, these are a 10-minute, a 15-minute and a 20-minute study. The top two are on cartridge paper, and the lowest one is on Japanese paper. I had fairly good luck that night, I felt, getting the lok of A-   .
All are done with soft (8B or 9B) graphite, and all are about 18 x 24".

On the Thursday I got out to part of the drawing session at the TSA. A-  was working that night - I haven't drawn her for a couple of years. These are 1-minute studies, done with graphite on 18 x 24" cartridge paper.
