7th Entry for Nov. 7, 2010

These are three graphite studies of 15-minute poses on cartridge paper above, and one with graphite on a sheet of roughly 18 x 24 Japanese paper below.
I'm quite happy with the look and texture of the back study.

After a longer break, J-  did some more 1-minute poses. These are some of them, done on 18 x 24" cartridge paper with an 8B graphite stick.

5th Entry for Nov. 7, 2010

These are three 10-minute studies of J-   , on 18 x 24" cartridge paper using 8B graphite.

4th Entry for Nov. 7, 2010

These are two 5-minute studies above, and a 10-minute one below. As a variant on my usual working process, I tried drawing a scribbly desture sketch of the whole figure, then overlaying it with more shaded passages in places, but letting some areas stay loose.
They are also 8B graphite on 18 x 24" cartridge paper.

3rd Entry for Nov. 7, 2010

I came back for the evening session, where I found J-    working.  These are 1-minute studies using 8B graphite on 18 x 24" cartridge paper.

2nd Entry for Nov. 7, 2010

In the afternoon I worked with a 3-hour pose. The topmost two images are on 18 x 24" cartridge paper.  The topmost one took approx. 40 minutes. The second one took 20.

The lower two images are on similar-sized (approx 18 x 24") Japanese paper. The one above took 30 minutes, and the one below it was about 25 minutes.

It helped that I was able to familiarise myself with the poses, and it seemed that the faster the study, the better it got. Also, the image quality is markedly better on the better paper than on the cartridge paper.

1st entry for Nov 7, 2010

On the Sunday morning, I was at the TSA. The upper four images are a 5-minute study above, and some 10-minute  and 15-minute studies of R-  below.  The top 4 are all on 18 x 24: cartridge paper.  R- is a person whose face I spend a lot time trying to set down.

Below is a 15-minute back study on Japanese paper.
All are done with 8B graphite.
