Showtime

Two pieces of mine are included in this big survey figurative art exhibition, which has a double-opening, tonight and Saturday, Oct. 10, 8 pm to 2 am each night. It's at the Super Wonder Gallery, Bloor St W just east of Ossington.
There's a $10 cover for the parties.
If you want to bypass the hubbub, the show continues Oct 11 - 14, 1 pm to 10 pm daily.

from the top, these are a 10-minute, a 20-minute and a 15-minute study. The topmost one is Koh-I-Noor Negro pencil on it's own, and the lower two are the same pencil on a prepared chalk pastel underlayer. All are 18 x 18"

These are 5-minute studies on 18 x 18" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper. The top two are oil-based pencil; the next two are Pitt pen with a graphite sketch assist, and the lower one is oil-based pencil with a Progresso black woodless coloured pencil for shading.
I was enjoying drawing Jim's mature build. It was a change from the usual mix of wiry and/or younger people I've been drawing.

On the Monday night I got out to the White House Art Project in Kensington.  Jim was working that night. These are some 30-second, 1-minute, 2-minute and 3-minute studies, all oil-based pencil on 18 x 18" heets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper.

These are two 10-minute studies above, a 15-minute one and a 20-minute one. The top two are grey and black pigment pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper.
The lower two are black Pitt pen, graphite and Progresso woodless pencil for shading. Later I went over the bottom one with a Prismacolor clear blender pencil to smooth out the shading texture. These are both on 18 x 24" sheets of lightweight Stonehenge paper.

On the Monday morning I went over to the Heliconian Club's morning drawing session. Dorrie was working that morning, and these are three 1-minute studies, two 5-minute ones and a couple of 10-minute ones.
I was feeling a bit wobbly in my drawing, so for the 5-minute ones I focused on almost-blind contour drawing, which helped me get more focused. The last two studies have some graphite undersketching.
All are one with a Pitt pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper.

This is a 2-hour study of Lina, done on an 18 x 24" sheet of Revere rag paper. It has a graphite initial sketch-in, India ink washes and oil-based pencil on top.
