I made it back for part of the evening, where I found A-    was working, in one of her rare appearances.
These are 1-minute studies, done with hard compressed charcoal on 18 x 24" cartridge paper.

These are, in order from the top, a 1-hour, a 40-minute and a 20-minute study.  All three are done with hard compressed charcoal on sheets of a couple of types of Japanese paper.

The placement of the figure on the first was a little too central. The second worked the best, and the bottom one, at 20 minutes, was a little rushed, I felt.

A week raced by where I was busy with classes and a special intensive course.  The sunday following was the next opportunity for me to do some sketching.   T-    was working that day, and I only made it over for a small amount of the morning session.  These are two 15-minute studies, done on 18 x 24" cartridge paper with hard compressed charcoal.
After the physically and psychically taxing week, I was fairly rusty that morning.

 At top is a 15-minute study, done with charcoal on 18 x 24" Japanese paper.  I liked the challenge of the lighting on L-   's foreshortened face, though I don't feel I got a strong likeness.

Below are a couple more 15-minute studies, done on 18 x 24" cartridge paper with hard compressed charcoal.  On the upper one I took a further stab at having only a body portion, rather than the whole figure approach I usually use.  For the lower one, I went back to my more default position of drawing the full figure. The comparatively flat lighting made conveying the foreshortening challenging.

These are two 5-minute studies and a 10-minute one from the Sunday evening.  All were done with hard compressed charcoal on 18 x 24" cartridge paper.


The evening of May 31st marked the successful launch party for a month-long show of work from people associated with the TSA's Thursday night drawing sessions.  It's at the Blue Moon pub, at 725 Queen St E, just east of Broadview.
