Above are a couple of 5-minute studies and below are a couple of 10-minute ones, done in 8B graphite on 20 x 30" sheets of cartridge paper.

1st entry for Nov 11, 2010

On Thursday I went out drawing as well.  M-    was working, and these are 1-minute studies, with graphite on 18 x 24" cartridge paper.

3rd Entry for Nov. 9, 2010

These three studies are all done with graphite on roughly 18 x 24" Japanese paper sheets. I've been trying a variety of different ones in an attempt to work out which one has the handling characteristics I most like.  Each has a slightly different quality, so I haven't settled on one or two yet.
 So in some ways these studies are like blind testing - I pick a piece at random, draw on it, and then later look at several of them together and compare their look.
The upper two were 20 minutes each, while the lower one was a 15-minute one.

These are two 10-minute studies of M-  above, with graphite on 20 x 30" cartridge paper.
The image below is also graphite, on a slightly smaller sheet of Japanese paper

 

I was back sketching the next day, over at Artists 25. M-  was working, and I was continuing to explore the possibilities of extra-soft graphite sticks.

The top three images are 1-minute studies on 18 x 24" sheets of cartridge, and the two below are 5 minutes each, on 20 x 30" sheets of cartridge paper.

On the Monday, I tried out a new space, the CS studios. It was very small and intimate, but I had also happened upon the one evening where the organisers had elected to skip having a model, in favour of doing some drapery study.

I was already there, so I elected to stay. The top image is a 30-minute study, 18 x 24". the next one was 45 minutes on a 20 x 30" sheet, the third was an hour, 20 x 30", and the bottom one was 20 minutes, on an 18 x 24" sheet. All of these are done on cartridge paper, using 8B graphite.

I missed having a person to draw, but it was good practice, all the same.
