1st entry for May 11, 2014
On the Sunday morning I was over at the 519 community centre, for their once-monthly longer poses session. (It happens the 2nd Sunday of every month, 10 - 1.) Brendan was back working, and these are three 3-minute studies at top, and two 5-minute ones below. All are Pitt calligraphy-point pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper.

Entry for May 9, 2014
On the Friday I got back out to the Arts and Letters club for the 1:30 to 3:30 afternoon stretch of a long pose. Su was working that day (it was the lasy day of a multi-Friday pose). This is a 1.75 hour study, done with watercolour pencil and washes of water-soluble graphite on an 18 x 24" sheet of 150 lb Legion rag paper.
I was happy with the balance of spontaneity and control the wash/pencil combination afforded. The drawing has detail, and a good range of values, but fresher and faster than all in pencil.

Entry for May 8, 2014
On the Thursday I made a trek out to the High Park area and caught about 2/3 of a Collective drawing session in an apartment out that way. Hanna was the volunteer model for the evening.
The top four studies are around 10 minutes each, the second-last 15 minutes and the bottom one 20, I believe.
All are on 18" square pieces of paper; the top four are Pitt pen on Canson Recycled Sketch sheets, and the lower two are water-soluble pencil and water-soluble graphite washes on 140 lb. Canson Montval watercolour paper.

Last week the special 6-week costume and clothing class started at the TSA, on May 22nd.
In advance of that I was looking to post some promotional images of people in clothes on Facebook, and all I had were fast studies, from aerial sessions, Collective nights and Sketchys/Toons sessions.
In search of an extended study, I went over to the Arts and Letters club on the Wednesday morning, It is an ornate old building with a long arts history. They have back to back 2-hour sessions on Wednesdays and Fridays during the day (so 4 hours each day, with a lunch pause. It's open to non-members, and each 2-hour stretch is $10. Models work 2 to 3 weeks in the same pose(but different ones Wed & Fri.) and a lot of them - but not all- are clothed. Drawing happens up on the 3rd floor in a nice old room. If you go, you have to buzz the front door to be admitted, though.
This is a 1.5 hour study of Kit using water-soluble pencil and water-soluble graphite washes on 18 x 24 Canson Montval watercolour paper.

1st entry for May 6, 2014
On the Tuesday I was over at Diane Mcgrath's Drawing Room session on Sterling Rd. Ashley was working, and these are some 30-second and 1-minute studies, all done with Pitt pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper.
2nd entry for May 4, 2014
These are a 15-minute study, a 20-minute one and a 12-minute one. All done with water-soluble graphite on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Montval watercolour paper. During the 20-minute one my drawing board upended when the chair it was propped against slid out too far. Water spilled around, and resulted in a bunch of drips below Sidney's upper torso. Which in hindsight I'm kind of liking, though the way it was generated was a bit too jarring to make a habit of.

On the Sunday morning, Sidney was working over at the Sackville Open Session (which have now moved from there to Rebellion Gallery, farther east out on Eastern Avenue.)
These are, from the top, a 5-minute study and four 10-minute ones. All are done with Pitt calligraphy point pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper.
A reminder too that there is a 6-week Intro Life Drawing class starting at the TSA this Saturday, May 24, from 9:15 to 12:15 weekly. It is definitely running, and you can still sign up for it here.

2nd entry for May 2, 2014
For the second half of the Sketchy's evening, St. Stella switched to this Can-Can-themed ensemble. The Parisian music was pumping on the sound system (which was almost too much of a gallop to stay focused with, but appropriate). There were a series of 3-minute poses (2 at top, done with Pitt pen on 18 x 24" Canson Recycled paper, as is the very bottom one) Then there were a series of 15-minute poses. The first and last of which have had post-pose additional working time. They are done on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson XL Bristol paper, using Pitt pen, some dilute ink in a Pentel brushpen, water-soluble graphite and graphite, in varyng mixes.
The bottom-most image was a warmup drawing of the stage pre-drawing time. Did I mention that this Wed morning at the TSA there is a Perspective basics class starting that I'm teaching and that you can enroll for here? Those chairs wont draw themselves...

On the Friday night the monthly Dr Sketchy's session took place at Round Venue on Augusta Ave in Kensington. Burlesque performer St. Stella was the model for the evening. For the first half she was working in a Red Riding Hood outfit, with apple and basket.
These studies are all Pitt pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper. The topmost one here is 15 minutes, and all the lower ones are 3 minutes above up through 5 minutes up to a couple of 10-minute ones at the bottom.
A reminder that there is a 6-week costume and clothing class starting this Thursday night, May 22 at the TSA, which you can enroll for here.
