1st entry for Sept 10, 2012
On the Monday night I was back in drawing at Diane McGrath's studio. Natasha was there, making a trapeze a trapeze bar set high near the ceiling look like an easy perch.
These are some 1-minute and 2-minute studies, done with hard compressed charcoal on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper.
No trapezes, but if you're out tomorrow during Nuit Blanche, stop by rhe Toronto School of Art (410 Adelaide St W, just W. of Spadina) where groups of drawers will be drawing portraits of volunteer sitters through the night. Come after midnight and you may be able to sit for 20 minutes in exchange for a sketch, or possibly join in to draw 'til you drop.

4th entry for Sept 3, 2012
These are four 5-minute studies above, two 10-minute studies below that and a 15-minute one at the bottom. Murray's poses were really impressive that night.
The upper six are all on 23 x 34" sheets of Durotone paper, and the lowest one is on a 22 x30" sheet of Maidstone 90 lb rag paper. All are drawn with hard compressed charcoal.

These are some further studies of Murray on straps and rope - four 3-minute studies above, and two 5-minute ones below. All are done with hard compressed charcoal on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper.
*** If you want to get a portrait sketch done at the Toronto School of Art on Nuit Blanche (Sept 29) take note: you can come in for 20 minutes, get your portrait sketched by a group of people, and you'll get to take home your favourite sketch. You can contact thomasdraws@yahoo.ca to arrange the time you're coming. Please pass the word along - we still have some spaces available from 7 PM through to 7 AM.

2nd entry for Sept 3, 2012
These are some 2-minute studies, done with hard compressed charcoal on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper.
There won't be any aerial equipment involved, but if you want to get a portrait sketch done at the Toronto School of Art on Nuit Blanche (Sept 29) take note: you can come in for 20 minutes, get your portrait sketched by a group of people, and you'll get to take home your favourite sketch. You can contact thomasdraws@yahoo.ca to arrange the time you're coming. Please pass the word along - we still have some spaces available from 7 PM through to 7 AM.
We're also still looking for a few more sketchers who can come in late in the night - either from 1 AM to 4 AM, or from 4AM to 7AM. It's really good portrait practice, to draw a succession of different people over 3 hours. The person whose sketch gets chosen by a sitter gets a small prize in return - a little bit of cash, some drawing session vouchers, or some other small gift. If you want to take part, contact me at the thomasdraws yahoo address above.

On the Monday Murray came to work at Diane Mcgrath's Drawing Room session. He started working on heavy straps. These are 30-second and 1-minute poses, all done with medium compressed charcoal on 18 x 24" sheets of bond paper.
