1st entry for Sept 12, 2010
On the Sunday morning I got over to the TSA. D- was working. These were some of the 1-minute poses that she started with.
2nd Entry for Sept. 10, 2010
These were a 5-minute and two 15-minute poses, which closed off my evening. M- was as good as usual, but it took me 'til the latter half to get past drawing his head.

1st entry for Sept 10, 2010
On Friday I got back out drawing, and this time M- was working. These were some 5-minute and 10-minute studies. As is often the case, I focused on his head to the point where no time was left to draw the rest of him. His poses are very expressive, and I like to try to set them down, but his face does still trump that a bit for me.

2nd Entry for Sept. 7, 2010
These poses were all in the 20-minute range. I feel the top one is quite strong.
On the standing pose, I once again ran out of room for legs. Additionally, I have reduced the size of the back of S- 's head in the drawing one of the pitfalls of drawing flat, as I usually choose to, i=s that the top part of the page can get distorted because it is that much farther away from me while working (and being viewed at a much more oblique angle, too.)

1st entry for Sept 7, 2010
On Tuesday I made it out to Artists 25 - now that a class I taught on Tuesdays has finished, it is a drawing option again.
S- , who is a new model, was working. These are a 5-minute crouching pose above and two 10-minute poses below. He is a very tall individual, and, like other tall people I've drawn, I found it hard at the distance I was at to get his whole figure on the page. I liked how he used the stretch of his limbs in the more compressed short poses - they became quite abstract at times.
It was also one of the nights where my preferred large drawing boards had all been scooped up by others, so I had to make do with a piece of pegboard for a backing. in the standing sketch you can see that the dot pattern of the pegboard did impart a subtle pattern to the shading.

I got back for the evening drawing session as well. S- was there, and these are a couple of 1-minute poses and a 5-minute one that she did.

4th Entry for Aug. 29, 2010

I stayed for part of the afternoon as well. The study below was the last short one I did that morning (about 20 mins) and the one above is on Japanese paper, and was about 1 hr and 30 mins of time spent drawing.
If there is anyone wanting to learn about life drawing, or many other areas of the visual arts, 12-week fall classes are starting this week at the Toronto School of Art. I teach life drawing and portraiture there, on Wednesdays and Saturday mornings. You can find out about all the TSA course offerings here.
Also, I won't be showing figure studies, but I have drawings on display today (Sept 19th) - in Trinity-Bellwoods park, at the Queen West Art Crawl.
You can find out more about the event in general here.
To get a taste of some of the work I'm showing there, check here.
