These are more 2-minute and 3-minute studies.

J- held each pf these poses for about 2 minutes.

1st entry for January 19, 2010

Lots of figure drawing of late. On the Tuesday night I went to Diane McGrath's studio and took part in her "Drawing Room" session. J- was working, and I have drawn her before. These were some of the poses she took for 1 minute

3nd entry for January 18, 2010

This was a 40-minute that ended the morning. It was done on a 24" x26" sheet of Durotone "aged newsprint" paper. The head is a little large proportionately, and dominates the study. His lower legs seem a little short, but that is partly due to the angle they were bent at in sitting in a comparatively low chair.

These images can be viewed a little larger and with a truer value range if you click on any of the images posted.

1st entry for January 18, 2010

On Monday I braved an early rise to step into the noise and bustle of the Art gallery of Ontario's open drawing session. It happens in a big hangar of a room, with partitions separating people visually from other clusters of teachers, students and heavy machinery being operated in the distance.
C- was working, and I hadn't drawn him before. These were some of his 5-minute poses.

6th entry for January 17, 2010

These are a 20-minute newsprint study and a 22-minute back study on Japanese paper, which finished off the evening.

5th entry for January 17, 2010

These were 15-minute poses. I have drawn M- many times, but most of those occasions were a few years ago. When I draw someone quite a few times in a similar timeframe, I find I start to develop a `shorthand' to depicting their likeness, and that can speed up the process.
But after a period of time has passed, their features will shift with age, and that shorthand can be a bit of an obstacle, as it means imposing no longer relevant information on what is being seen.
I felt like I was re-acquainting myself with the features of M- 's face, with varying degrees of success. That meant that I spent quite a it of time focussing on drawing her head that night.

3rd entry for January 17, 2010

I made Sunday a TSA `trifecta' by returning for the evening session. M- was working, and these are four 1-minute poses plus a 5-minute one.

2nd entry for January 17, 2010

I didn't have any obligations that afternoon, and on the spur of the moment I decided to stay for the 3-hour pose that S- did.
This was done on a 24 x 36 sheet of Japanese paper. The likeness of S- 's face worked very well, but her head is a little small for her body overall in this one, and her shoulders don't sit well.
Nice shadows and drapery, though.

1st entry for January 17, 2010

Still working on maintaining a higher profile while seeking new students, I went out to the Sunday morning drawing session at the TSA. S- was working, and these are 10-minute and 15-minute poses that she took.

2nd entry for January 15, 2010

These were 15-minute and 20-minute poses that M- took towards the end of the evening.

Around this time I was putting in an appearance at more drawing sessions than usual - partly because my schedule allowed, but also in the hopes of attracting a couple of additional students to some life drawing classes that have just started at the TSA now (I'm posting this Jan 24th).

It is still possible to enroll- if you're interested, you can get details here.

1st entry for January 15, 2010

These were 5-minute and 10-minute studies of M- , who was working on the Friday night at the TSA
